- description: Mark McAllister is a young graphic designer and activist from Sudbury Ontario, Canada. Mark suffers from Spinal Muscular Atrophy. Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) is a motor neuron disease. The motor neurons affect the voluntary muscles that are used for activities such as crawling, walking, head and neck control, and swallowing. While a firm prognosis is hard to determine, Mark will most likely die from complications arising from his condition in 10 to 15 years (barring a major medical breakthrough). Mark is a prominent figure in his community. He sits on the boards of the Association of Registered Graphic Designers of Ontario and the Independence Centre and Network, as well as various other committees. He ran in the 2006 Canadian Federal Election, and was recognized with a 2006 Premier’s Award nomination. Mark started the 2.0 Project in 2005 with the hope of adding a human story to the life extension movement, while seeking funding to have himself cryonically suspended at the Alcor Life Extension Foundation upon the event of his death.
